Living near Amish Country...

Since Denny is leaving to take up residence in Costa Rica in a couple of weeks, we took advantage of visiting Lancaster PA last Saturday before he leaves.

What a beautiful spring day God afforded us. Since we only have a couple of Saturdays left to be together we really needed that day to be spring like!

We drove to Lancaster to visit the farmers market, we strolled through the Kitchen Kettle Village.

We ate at Good and Plenty where everyone sits family style and bowls of Amish cooking is passed, then we drove on to Nickel Mine where the tragedy took place 7 years ago when a milk truck delivery man invaded an Amish school, raping and killing girls. It was a sad remembrance of how evil interrupts a normal day that turns the day into anything but normal. Of course the most beautiful memory of that tragic story is how the Amish community forgave Carl Roberts and ministered to his family.

One of Den's favorite memories of his childhood is his parents making homemade rootbeer. As we were driving along we saw a sign advertising homemade rootbeer. You followed the path back to the farm.

There on a rickety door was the sign! Wonderful! What a way to make someone's day! Interesting though, the little Amish girl manning the little store had braces on her teeth, not only that, they were pink. My how things change!
